Notice is hereby given that the Ephrata Township Board of Supervisors at its meeting on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at 7:00 a.m., at the Ephrata Township Office, 265 Akron Road, Ephrata, Pennsylvania, shall consider, and, if appropriate, at that meeting or at a meeting held within 60 days of the date of publication of this advertisement, shall enact an ordinance, the caption of which is as follows:

AN ORDINANCE OF THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE TOWNSHIP OF EPHRATA, LANCASTER COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA, AUTHORIZING VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENTS THAT SERVICE THE TOWNSHIP TO RECOVER ACTUAL AND REASONABLE RESPONSE COSTS EXPENDED IN CONNECTION WITH ANY FIRE, SAFETY RESCUE INCIDENT, MEDICAL EMERGENCY, OR HAZARDOUS SITUATION ABATEMENT.

The proposed ordinance authorizes volunteer fire departments serving residents and businesses of Ephrata Township to recover the costs incurred in responding to emergencies from insurance carriers, and can be summarized as follows: Section 1 authorizes volunteer fire departments serving the Township to recover costs of emergency responses and requires such fire departments to establish fee schedules and make them available to the public. Section 2 sets forth a procedure for billing insurance carriers, requires insurance carriers to reimburse the fire departments and establishes remedies for the fire departments if insurance carries refuse reimbursement. Section 3 establishes requirements for the utilization of reimbursed costs. Section 4 requires fire departments to account for costs charged and reimbursements obtained and make such accountings available to the Township. Sections 4, 5, 6, and 7 provide for repeal of inconsistent ordinances, non-impairment of other ordinances, severability, and the effective date. A copy of the proposed ordinance may be examined without charge at the offices of this newspaper and at the Ephrata Township Office, 265 Akron Road, Ephrata, Pennsylvania, Mondays through Fridays from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. A copy of the proposed ordinance may be obtained for the cost of reproduction at the Ephrata Township Office during the above hours.
